Mow Smart, Not Hard

Height Matters

Cut grass to 2.5-3 inches tall. Taller grass shades the soil, not allowing for proper air flow which can prevent healthy undergrowth making weeds thrive—perfect for the Mat-Su Valley’s short, intense summers in Palmer and Wasilla.

Sharp Blades

Dull blades tear grass, inviting disease. Keep them sharp for a clean cut, whether you’re mowing in Palmer or beyond.

Timing

Morning can be quite damp in the Mat Su Valley, so wait till it dries out a bit, if you can, or late afternoon to avoid midday heat stress, which is less of of a worry but the Mat Su summers can be hot at times. Wet grass? Skip it—it clumps and spreads unevenly, a common hassle in our rainy Mat-Su Valley climate. If you love to mow but don't always have the time it could help on wet and rainy weeks toward the end of summer to mow if we can't be in Palmer Wasilla or Meadow Lakes all in one or two days. So don't be Afraid to jump out there and enjoy the one nice day we might have with a nice relaxing afternoon on your mower, feeling like the King or Queen of your little slice of heaven.
